Congratulations on another two successful Escondido Hill Climbs.
A. And now a message of friendly reminders from our volunteers
Bring two tubes per bike.
If your tires are tubeless, bring sealant and CO2. Bring to levers.
Our Youth Support had to give up their tubes and they needed them for themselves.
Practice power pedal and safety stop. We still have kids stumbling and falling.
All kids need a water bottle and a hydration back.
The neon vest needs to go OVER the hydration back.
Names must be visible.
B. Let’s Talk. Communication on the RAC (and training rides)
It’s time to talk. To each other.
See something, say something.
Shout outs are such great motivators.
“Good job, Mary Lou.”
“Awesome scanning, Kasimir”
And shout outs are friendly reminders.
“Single file, Asterix.”
“Pass four at a time Citronella!”
“You have lower gears, Nepomuk.”
What not to say:
“Please go faster.”
Chances are, they can’t.
Tip about long lines.
To avoid long ‘traffic jams’ of riders crawling up the hills, start at your natural speed.
If you usually ride in the middle, don’t start with the front.
Another tip. My best one.
Find your tribe and stay together.
Find people your speed.
Get to know them.
Stay with them. Stop with them for bathroom or chase breaks. Stay together all day.
Having a "tribe" makes the long miles and big hills much easier (and more fun) for both you and your child.

How many miles has your child ridden so far?
Please record your child’s miles on the document. Honor system.
We will not kick you out if you are low on miles.
Instead, we will offer extra help so you can catch up.

Please arrive by 8:45. We start promptly at nine.
Our longest ride yet, but not as steep as Escondido.
We’ll visit the Tritons and UCSD and the Three Witches in Fairbanks Ranch. Such fun.
